Multi choice test paper and pencil

The SMSTS course consists of two assessments:

  • An examination paper, with 20 multiple choice questions, and five short written questions.
  • A trainer review.

The trainer review focusses on the candidate’s contribution and behaviour during the five days, and includes three elements:

  • The candidate’s performance in group exercises.
  • Candidate engagement — providing answers/suggestions during the course.
  • Core exercises completed — the candidate must prepare and deliver four core exercises around specific areas of site health and safety.

Requirements

You won’t receive a course certificate without full attendance. Anyone unable to complete the course due to sickness or other circumstances must enrol on a new course and attend all five days again.

SMSTS training certificates are valid for five years and issued digitally. However, due to changes in technology, the law, environmental management, and cultural behaviour, it is recommended that you take the SMSTS Refresher Course within three years.

Supporting materials

To help you prepare for the assessment and trainer review, you will receive homework assignments and interactive revision materials covered by the course fee.

These interactive revision questions are based on actual assessments and include immediate feedback. You can use these materials as many times as you wish.
